What is a certified translation?
> A certified translation in Canada is a translation completed by a Translator Certified by CTTIC and member of a provincial association: it must have the translator's declaration, with their membership details, attached to the translation and to the copy of the original document. The Certified Translator Seal must also be included on every page. This is the standard certified translation package we provide in compliance with government guidelines.
What is the difference between a certified, sworn, and professional translator?
> A Certified Translator has passed the exam and requirements set by the Canadian national council (CTTIC) for translating that language combination, and is a member in good standing of a provincial association. Only a Certified Translator with their seal meets the quality standards set by the Canadian government and official institutions. (✅ Accepted by Immigration Canada)
A sworn translator is a professional in another country, sometimes a member of a professional association, who swears an oath before a commissioner witnessing their signature on the declaration. These declarations are often not provided in English or French and do not meet government guidelines in Canada. (❌ Not accepted by Immigration Canada)
A professional translator is a freelancer who may or may not be a member of a professional association. Their translations are not used for formal or government procedures. For example, websites or marketing content can be translated by a professional translator specialized in marketing. (❌ Unofficial translation not accepted by Immigration Canada)
Does it matter who does my certified translation?
> In short... Yes! The Canadian government and official institutions (like Immigration Canada, CRA, Credit Evaluation Services, Universities etc.) only accept certified translations. Depending on your province, other official institutions may also require a translator that is a member of a specific province (e.g. Insurance Corporation of BC, or the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario). Other entities like Consulates have specific lists of approved translators.
You could find a translator offering you a very competitive price, but your translation may NOT be certified or it may NOT get accepted in your location.
We have lots of knowledge and expertise in this area and Translators Certified across Canada! Let us help you make sure your translations are accepted.
How much does a certified translation cost?
> Every project is unique. Many things can affect the price: the total word count, the legibility of the document, the complexity of the content, the delivery method, the translator's experience and more.
Companies that advertise a low cost up-front are often advertising the lowest prices to get you through the door, but will give you a new quote after seeing the document, or increase the cost when you now depend on them for more translations. Other times low prices are directly correlated with poor quality: translators have to produce more documents per day to make enough profit, rushing translations and overlooking accuracy.
This is why we ask specific questions when you first contact us. We want to give you the best value: exactly what you need, when you need it, at a fair price. Certified Translations starting at $40 CAD.
